ButJapanesepeoplearenotaloneintheirdevotiontoinstantnoodles.AccordingtotheWorld'sInstantNoodlesAssociation,China,Indonesia,VietnamandIndia–inthatorder–allconsumedmoreinstantnoodlesthanJapanin2021.Instantnoodles'popularityabroadisinpartduetohoweasytheyaretoadapttolocaltastes.InThailand,forexample,youcangetgreencurryflavour,whileinMexicothenoodlesaregarnishedwithlimeandsalsa.Anditseemsthatconsumershavegrowntoexpectinnovation.Nissin,thefoodcompanyfoundedbyAndo,launchesover300productsyearly,justinJapan,accordingtoemployeeKasuraSuzuki.
Instantnoodleshavetheircritics,too.Theirriseinpopularityhascomeatanenvironmentalcost–they'remadewithpalmoil,contributingtodeforestation,andtheirpackagingisplastic.Andwhiletheyareahot,tastyandfillingmeal,instantnoodlesdon'thavemuchnutritionalvalue,andincludehighlevelsofsaltandfat.Nevertheless,instantnoodlesareundoubtedlylifesaversinemergencyorextremesituations.
