ThePhoto-InjectorTestfacilityatDESYinZeuthen(PITZ,nearBerlin)focusesonthedevelopmentofhighbrightnesselectronsourcesforFreeElectronLasers(FELs)suchasFLASHandtheEuropeanXFELaswellasonapplicationsofhighbrightnessbeamsliketheworld’sfirsthigh-powerTHzSASEFELanduniqueresearchcapabilitiesfortumorradiotherapyandradiationbiology.
ThepositionisallocatedtotheoptimizationandexplorationoftheTHzradiationgeneratedbytheTHzSASEFELatPITZaswellasthestudyofTHzFELseedingoptions.Wearelookingforapostdocwithexperimentalandtheoreticalbackgroundinaccelerators,whowilljoinourteamforthefurtherdevelopmentofthehigh-powertunableaccelerator-basedTHzsourceforpump-probeexperimentsattheEuropeanXFELincooperationwithlocalandinternationalpartners.
Aboutyourrole:
Workinoneoftheleadinggroupsdevelopingandtestingphotoinjectorsandtheirapplications(withfocusonthefurtherdevelopmentandoptimizationofthehigh-powertunableaccelerator-basedTHzsourceatPITZ);
Workinaninternationalteamofphysicistsandengineers;
Takeresponsibilityincoordinating,performing,andanalyzingtheTHzsourcerelatedscientificprogramatPITZanditsadvanceddiagnostics;
Beinchargeofsimulationstudies,datatakingandanalysisprocedures,aswellasdiagnosticshardwarecomponents,e.g.THzdiagnostics;
Developinnovativeconcepts,techniquesandapplicationsforPITZandotheracceleratorfacilities;
Jointheacceleratoroperation.
Aboutyou:
ExcellentuniversitydegreeinphysicsorengineeringwithPhDorequivalentqualification;
Knowledgeinacceleratorphysicsandexperienceinacceleratortechniquesandbeamdynamics;
KnowledgeofSASEandseededFELtheory,simulationskillsintheseareas,andexperienceinadvancedTHzdiagnostics(e.g.singleshotEOS)areadvantageous;
Interestinandcapabilityofguidingsmallteamsofstudents,aswellasworkinginclosecollaborationwithengineersandtechnicians;
GoodknowledgeofEnglishisrequired,knowledgeofGermanisofadvantage.
