PekingPoliticsandLawSchoolwasfoundedin1949onthebasisofChaoyangUniversity,andthenitwasrenamedChinaUniversityofPoliticalScienceandLawinMayofthesameyear.Thenewunversitywaslocatedintheold"ShippingWarehouse"inDongchengDistractofPeking,whichwasthesiteoftheoldChangyangUniversity.

InFebruary,1950,theformerChinaUniversityofPoliticalScienceandLawandHuabeiUniversitywasmergedintoone,whichistheformalfuoundationofRenminUniversityofChina.DepartmentofLawwasoneoftheeightdepartmentsthatconsisttheearliestthenewuniversity.ThesecondpictureaboveisthegroupphotoofthewholefacultyofLawDepartmentatthattime.

Studentsinlawdepartmentenjoyedarichacademiclife.ThefirstpicturerecordedProfessorHeSijin,sclassin1953.ThesecondpictureistherecordofthediscussionofLaw&Diplomacyteaminthe2ndScienceSymposiumin1951.Thephotointherightrecordedanordinaryclassdiscussionbetweentheteacherandthestudents.

Afterfouryears,thefirststudentsoftheLawDepartmentofRUCfinishedtheirundergradutateeducationin1954.ManyofthembecamethefoundersofthemodernlegaleducationinChinaandmadegreatcontributiontothemodernlegalresearch.

Theyearof1979isanewstartforthedevelopoftheRUClawschool.thepolicyofreformandopeningupandreestablishmentofthecollegeentranceexaminationsgaveRUCLawschoolbetterchancetodevelopitself.Fromthe1970sto1990,newdevelopmentappearedinvariousdisciplineswiththestrongfoundationlaidinthe1950s.
