英国绝大部分的超市都是连锁的，比如比较大众的超市Sainsbury，Tesco和Asda等等，也都是本地人光顾最多的超市。它们的规模有大有小根据不同地理位置而不同，就拿Tesco来举例子，TescoExtra——店铺面积很大，一般不在市中心，东西卖的也是最全的，电器、衣物、家居用品应有尽有；TescoSuperstore——比Extra要小一点，标准Tesco超市大小；TescoMetro——大小在Superstore和Express之间。一般在市中心，购物街，繁华地区可见；TescoExpress——在小购物街，小镇，社区都能时不时路过一个，这个是最小的Tesco超市，品种自然不会很齐，但很方便，有些24小时都开业的。
